'Nuakhai Juhar'

PM Narendra Modi lauds farmers role in nation-building on 'Nuakhai Juhar'

Lauding the outstanding efforts of the farmers and their role in nation-building, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday greeted the nation on the occasion of Nuakhai Juhar.

"Nuakhai Juhar! Greetings to everyone on this auspicious occasion. On Nuakhai we laud the outstanding efforts of our industrious farmers and their role in nation-building. I pray for everyone's good health and well-being," PM Modi tweeted.

Nuakhai Juhar is celebrated in western Odisha and southern Chattisgarh.

The festival is observed to welcome the new season of rice. Nuakhai is a combination of two words that signifies the eating of new rice, 'Nua' means rice and 'khai' denotes eat.

Odisha is a land of 13 festivals in 12 months, out of which Nuakhai is a Sambalpuri festival that is highly popular in Western Odisha. The area is densely populated with tribal people whose main occupation is agriculture and this is the reason they celebrate Nuakhai. The literal meaning of Nuakhai is 'Nua' means New and 'khai' means eating. The new harvest crops are worshipped and people celebrate it by eating the first rice of the harvest together with their family.

Nuakhai Juhar is sharing gifts with your dear ones, wishing them on the occasion, and coming together as a family symbolizes unity. People leave behind differences and begin a new relationship afresh. In the evening, people greet each other by seeking blessings from elders.

This demonstrates the kind of unity, fraternity, and bonding festivals have in our culture. The festival finishes with folk songs, dances, drama expressing local culture and tradition of the various folds of society.

The objective of this festival is to celebrate social bonding and accelerate family ties. This day is celebrated by the farmers a day after observing Ganesh Chaturthi.

People who reside in different parts of the country come to their native places on this day to celebrate the festival by wearing new clothes, offering prayers, and preparing special food.

The festival has its origin from the Vedic period where the rishis used to discuss Panchyajna. The Pralambana yajna is the one that is meant for cutting new crops and offering prayers to the mother goddess.

Historical background:

This festival has been a tradition since the 12th century AD. People celebrate this festival with joy and happiness. The festival is celebrated by Chauvan Raja Ramai Deo at Patanagarh, which is now Bolangir district in Odisha.

The king understood the importance of agriculture in the economic development of the state. So he made sure to change the practice of hunting and gathering to an agrarian way of life in western Odisha.

Significance:

The Nuakhai festival gives learning to the current generation about the relevance of agriculture and the role of farmers in the development of the country.

Lily, The Pixie

Once upon a time, in a forest that was home to many magical creatures, there lived a tiny pixie fairy named Lily. She was no bigger than a thumb and had delicate wings that shimmered in the sunlight. She lived in a small flower house that she had built herself, surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants that she cared for with great love and attention. Lily was a kind and gentle fairy, who loved to help those in need. She spent her days flitting from flower to flower, collecting nectar and spreading pollen, and she sang sweet songs that echoed through the forest. Her music was so beautiful that the other creatures of the forest would stop and listen, entranced by her voice. One day, a young prince named Alexander was riding through the forest, when he heard Lily's beautiful singing. He was amazed, and he searched for the source of the music. When he found Lily, he was struck by her beauty and her kind heart. They talked for hours, and the prince learned about the magic of the fore
